Who We Are and What We Do

Welcome to Coventry Fibromyalgia Support Group’s website.

The support group was set up by Janet Farr in 2007, who was diagnosed at the age of 68. Janet felt there was the need for a support group in Coventry after attending fibromyalgia classes at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. Janet was surprised at how many young people were also on the course and wondered where they would get help/advice from once they finished the course.

Since the start of the support group the numbers have grown considerably and it goes to show that Janet's instinct was correct that there certainly was a need for the group.

We try to make the meetings as informal as possible, with plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits, friendly chat and laughter. After all laughter is the best medicine!

The committee is run by a group of volunteers with fibromyalgia and other health conditions.

We have numerous resources on

Fibromyalgia, benefits advice, please note, we are not able to complete the forms but we can offer advice from personal experiences on how and what to put on your form. We have information applying for a blue badge, financial advice, etc.

We have books on Fibromyalgia that can be borrowed from the group, handouts on various symptoms that come along with fibromyalgia, plus a lot more information that will hopefully be useful to you.

We have a shop where we sell fibro merchandise and some disability aids, example radar keys, blue badge holders, etc.

Our meetings are made up of speakers eg pharmacist and physios, as well as information on benefits and less formal activities such as bingo or just having a good old moan.

We organise raffles to raise funds for our group and every September we hold a coffee morning to raise as much as possible for MacMillan.

We try to organise fundraising days, awareness days, etc.

We are always open to further suggestions on things we can do as a group.

If you would like to talk to any of our committee members on a 1-1 basis, please see one of us and we will arrange it for you, this is whilst we are at the group, as the committee have fibro themselves and we never know if we are able to commit to a specific day/time.

We never want anyone to feel alone when dealing with fibro.

We have an informal coffee morning that is every Tuesday apart from when the group is on. This was set up by 2 of our members to offer a chance to people to have a cuppa and a chat/moan/laugh etc. This takes place at Wetherspoons, near the Sky Dome, Spon Gate, Coventry CV1 3AZ from 11.00am onwards.

We hope you will enjoy coming along to our group. It is an opportunity to make friends and be able to talk with people that understand what you are feeling/going through. We DO understand how you feel.
